Well, it’s been over 25 years, still going. Still enjoying all the head scratching and lightbulbs moments that go into creating unique furniture, functional and visual art.
I am an “enlightened creator”. I’m Self-taught, sometimes my creativity evokes memories of past furniture and art periods. But after looking closely you will find an added element mixed in my creations that reveals it’s my own vision.
I have always been a creator/designer, designing for clients, working together with their ideas, their wants and needs, their dreams. While exciting, thought provoking, and satisfying, it was my client’s dream, aspirations, and vision that I was focused on attaining. My clients were seeking someone with an imagination, experience, knowledge and skill to take their dreams through to fruition.
At the completion of a project my client’s would often comment on how much the results resembled their dream.
My enjoyment of creating throughout my career finally sparked an artistic evolution in my life. Blending my doodling, drawing, and dreaming into a material presence of unique furniture, functional art, and abstract painting.
Now I am creating for myself, it’s my vision. I create based on what I enjoy creating. I know somewhere on this planet people will enjoy my vision and creativity as much as I do. I create knowing that there will be people that will see a reflection of their life in my art, maybe it will become an interwoven piece of their life.
Creating for myself also has allowed me to grow my abstract painting experience. My painting experience started with all the doodling and drawing while creating objects and furniture for my clients. Realizing that my doodling and drawings could have a life, a completion as a piece of art if I just carried them through to fruition, furthered my excitement to grow my abstract painting experience. I’m enjoying the continuation of experiencing and experimenting with a variety of painting techniques and painting surfaces knowing that my imagination will always challenge me. I read a quote, and I concur, “practice makes progress, not perfection”.
My knowledge of the furniture industry was acquired through years of hands-on experience and experimentation, through research of materials and manufacturing techniques. This allows me to push the boundaries of fabricating and experimenting with new materials and techniques to create unique bespoke furniture and functional art.
My desire is that everyone purchasing my creative work will enjoy their own personal experience without a preconceived label.
As a creative person I enjoy contributing to the influence of a new period of furniture and art creation. Maybe today’s creative world will receive a formal historical period designation in the years to come, a place in history.
This has been the most liberating, exciting, and enjoyable time in my creative journey.
As I continue to create, I strive everyday to be included in the world of creative people. Taking time to often read the quote Andy Warhol is credited saying,
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art”.
Here’s to more creativity and art, making life more enjoyable!
